Where Can You Use a Blue Light Card?

Where can you use a Blue Light Card? Over 15,000 brands, grouped by category

You can use a Blue Light Card at over 15,000 UK brands, across restaurants, fashion, supermarkets, motoring, cinemas, health and travel. Some take the card at the till, some give an online code, and most supermarkets work through discounted Shopping Cards bought in the Blue Light Card app.

Blue Light Guide is an independent guide and isn’t affiliated with Blue Light Card Ltd. For your account, verification or payments, use the official Blue Light Card website or app.

Blue Light Card advertises over 15,000 brand partners, but its own site rarely names them by category. That leaves you guessing whether your local shop takes the card before you make the trip.

This map groups the main partners by category and shows how each one is claimed. It also answers the questions people ask most, including Aldi, McDonald’s and using the card abroad.

  • A Blue Light Card costs £4.99 for two years, so one restaurant meal or cinema trip covers it.
  • Retired NHS, police and armed forces members get exactly the same retailers as working members.
  • The Blue Light Card app is the live retailer map, because partners change all the time.

Who Can Use Blue Light Card Discounts

Blue Light Card is a UK discount scheme for NHS staff, emergency services, armed forces, social care workers and teachers. Police, fire, ambulance crews and MoD civilians all qualify.

You can check eligibility on the official Blue Light Card site before signing up.

Mountain Rescue volunteers and British Red Cross workers qualify too, so the card isn’t NHS-only. The Blue Light Card eligibility list covers every role.

Retired members get identical access. Shops don’t treat a retired police officer any differently from a serving one.

In-Store vs Online Blue Light Card Discounts

The most common frustration is turning up at a shop and finding the offer is online only. Every offer in the Blue Light Card app shows how it’s claimed, so check before you travel.

Gymshark, Boohoo, SHEIN, PrettyLittleThing and Debenhams are online only. Vue Cinema and most restaurant offers are in store only.

The app’s Offers Near You tool is the quickest way to find in-store partners close to you. More on that below.

The official Blue Light Card partner page lists brands, but it doesn’t group them with how each one works. This section does.

Restaurants and Takeaways

Sit-down chains are where the card works best, and Wagamama gives 20% off food every day when you dine in. On a £25 food bill, that’s £5 saved, which covers the card in one visit.

McDonald’s doesn’t take the Blue Light Card. Its 20% is a separate NHS offer in the My McDonald’s app, explained in the McDonald’s NHS discount breakdown.

PizzaExpress is a partner for dining in, Sunday to Thursday. The chain-by-chain restaurant rates list every rate and blocked day.

Toby Carvery gives 20% off food on weekdays, as the Toby Carvery and Harvester rules explain. For delivery, the Just Eat and Deliveroo offers work through a Shopping Card and Plus Silver.

Supermarkets and Grocery

Most supermarkets give nothing at the till. The savings come from discounted Shopping Cards you buy in the app, such as Tesco at around 4%.

Aldi doesn’t offer a Blue Light Card discount, and it’s one of several shops that don’t take the card. Card holders can show the card for priority shopping access, but that’s not money off and doesn’t apply online.

Asda’s till benefit ended in May 2025, so check what changed at Asda before you shop there. For pet food, the Pets at Home online code takes 10% off.

Fashion and Sportswear

New Look, JD Sports and River Island all give Blue Light Card discounts. Gymshark, Boohoo, SHEIN, PrettyLittleThing and Debenhams are online only.

Online fashion retailers need a code from the Blue Light Card app or website at checkout. The guide to finding and stacking promo codes shows how to save more.

JD Sports gives 10% off full price online, so a £60 order saves £6 and covers the card in one shop.

For trainers bought direct, the direct Nike and adidas codes give 10% each. Sports Direct only offers a 3.75% Shopping Card, while H&M works through gift cards.

Tech and Home

Tech partners mostly work through codes or Shopping Cards, not till discounts. Apple is a 2% Shopping Card, while Samsung’s member store takes around 10% off.

Currys runs rotating codes and a Shopping Card, and Argos sells a discounted Shopping Card too. For furniture, IKEA works through a shopping card and Dunelm through an online code.

Motoring and DIY

Halfords is the biggest motoring partner, with up to 7% off retail plus savings on servicing. Drivers who service their car there usually get the most from it.

The Blue Light Card Deal Finder browser extension alerts you when you’re shopping at Halfords or other motoring partners online.

For DIY, B&Q and Wickes work through Shopping Cards, while The Range gives 10% online. Breakdown cover comes through the RAC, set out in the motoring and breakdown offers.

Cinemas and Days Out

Vue is a Blue Light Card partner, and a discount on two tickets saves roughly £4 to £6. One cinema trip covers most or all of the £4.99 fee.

Cineworld also appears on the partner lists. Most leisure offers are claimed in person, so check the app before you travel.

Theme parks, zoos and heritage sites each work differently. The days out savings compared cover English Heritage and cinema memberships, and the zoo offers by venue list the parks taking part.

For events and attractions, the discounted tickets for events and days out are worth a look.

Health and Gyms

Health partners include optical, dental and pharmacy brands, though the line-up changes often. Boots works through its own route, set out in the Boots pharmacy and beauty breakdown.

For gyms, the gym discounts compared cover PureGym, Nuffield Health and others.

For glasses and contact lenses, Vision Express’s 20% offer is the main optician deal on the card.

Travel and Insurance

Blue Light Card travel discounts cover hotel stays, car hire and travel insurance. It’s a UK scheme, and in-store discounts don’t work abroad.

Blue Light Card has no partners at US theme parks or Orlando shops. If you’re travelling, check each attraction’s own site for an NHS or emergency services rate.

For package trips, the Jet2holidays, TUI and Haven codes are the main savings. Airport parking is discounted through the member link too.

Using the Blue Light Card App as Your Retailer Map

The Blue Light Card partner list changes constantly, so no article can stay fully current. The app is the only place that shows live partners.

To use Offers Near You, open the app, tap Offers Near You and allow location access. Then filter by category or distance to find in-store partners nearby.

Shopping Cards work differently from promo codes. They’re digital gift cards for specific retailers, bought at a discount inside the app.

You can watch how Shopping Cards work in this video. They add a second way to save at some retailers.

The app also holds your virtual card, which most shops accept instead of the physical one. If a retailer needs the physical card, the offer listing says so.

My advice is to download the app before any shopping trip. You’ll have the virtual card, the offer details and the location tool in one place.
