The Blue Light Card hotel list looks the same for every chain until you actually try to book one. Members save up to 25% at Hilton and at least 20% at IHG through Blue Light Card, with Travelodge adding a smaller 5% off.
Premier Inn is the exception. It doesn’t take a penny off the room price, and its card perks sit inside the wider package holiday and staycation offers instead, which read better than they book. A couple of smaller chains beat all four of them outright, and we’ve covered those further down too.
Every member rate here is measured against the chain’s flexible rate, not its cheapest advance purchase rate. That means a headline discount can still lose to a price anybody off the street can book.
- Travelodge 5% off, must book seven days ahead, capped at three nights.
- Hilton up to 25% off, the highest headline rate of the four.
- IHG 20% off, website bookings only, not available by phone.
Savings at the Big Four Chains
These are the four chains people search for most, and what each one gives a member.
| Hotel Chain | Discount |
|---|---|
| Travelodge | 5% off rooms |
| Premier Inn | Nothing on rooms, At Home products only |
| IHG | From 20% off |
| Hilton | Up to 25% off |
Travelodge Blue Light Card Discount
Travelodge gives Blue Light Card members 5% off the room rate, with two conditions almost every other page leaves out.

I logged into my account, searched Travelodge, and copied the code, easy enough. The awkward part was where it actually went.
The code goes on the basket page, reached through the View basket link in your booking summary, rather than the payment screen where you’d expect a discount box.
People miss it and assume the offer’s dead.
Most posts miss something Travelodge buries in its own terms, too. The booking has to be made at least seven days before your first night, and the stay can’t run longer than three nights. Both limits are set out in its FAQs, and neither appears on the offer tile in the app.
That rules out the two situations Travelodge is best at:
- Late booking
- Week-long base for a trip.
Check the numbers first. Travelodge sells a Lowest Rate at ÂŁ35 or less on plenty of dates, so the saving on a single night is well under ÂŁ2. Below roughly ÂŁ60 a night, the 5% isn’t worth the extra steps. Above that, on a three-night family room, it starts to justify the faff.
Premier Inn BLC Discount
Premier Inn gives Blue Light Card holders nothing off a hotel room. The offer that exists is for Premier Inn At Home, the mattress and bedding range.
It is a code you paste on the At Home website, and it has nothing to do with staying anywhere.

If you want proof of what it really is, look at what Blue Light Card lists beside it. The related brands are Simba, Emma, IKEA and Sofa Club. It is a furniture offer wearing a hotel name.
Premier Inn also doesn’t appear on Blue Light Card’s own hotel category page, which lists Travelodge, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Warner and IHG instead.
Any blog telling you there’s a Premier Inn room rate is repeating something that was never quite true.
Book Premier Inn direct and as far ahead as you can. Its own advance rates beat anything a discount card was ever going to give you there.
IHG Blue Light Card Discount
IHG’s Blue Light Card partner rate starts at 20% off, and runs as high as 30% at some hotels and times of year, which makes it the strongest offer on this page.
It works as a partner rate rather than a coupon. You click through from the Blue Light Card offer to the ihg website, and the reduced rate appears in the results as its own room type.

Two things follow from that. The partner rate is restricted to website bookings, so the call centre can’t apply it, and the hotel can ask for your membership ID at check in.
Keep the card on your phone. Reception asking for it is rare, but it’s written into the terms, and a partner rate is the one type of booking where a front desk actually might.
The discount comes off the Best Flexible Rate, and I found the booking has to go in at least three weeks ahead of the stay, longer than most people expect from a discount code.
IHG also runs public flash sales at 20% to 30% several times a year, and joining IHG One Rewards is free, so the member price isn’t automatically the lowest one on the page.
Hilton Blue Light Card Discount
Up to 25% off, the biggest number of the four and the one that swings hardest between properties.
You reveal the code inside your Blue Light Card account, then enter it when booking on the Hilton website.

Blue Light Card’s Hilton page puts the ceiling at 25% and covers the whole portfolio, though the exact rate can vary by brand and property, so it’s worth checking the figure on the offer page before you book.
The words doing the work are up to. City centre Hiltons on a busy weekend and resort properties in season rarely land anywhere near the top figure.
Quiet midweek dates at an airport or business district Hilton are where the full rate tends to show up, because that is when the flexible rate it is discounting is highest.
One thing worth knowing before you book. A discounted rate is still a rate, so Hilton Honors points and nights normally credit as usual, which is not true of every third-party booking site.
That matters more than the extra few percent if you stay in Hiltons often enough to be chasing status.
Other Hotel Chains and Booking Sites
The four above are not the whole category, and a couple of the smaller names beat them outright.
| Brand | Discount |
|---|---|
| Village Hotels | 20% off |
| Warner Hotels | Up to 15% off |
| Hotels.com | 10% off |
| Expedia | 10% off |
| YHA | 10% off |
Village Hotels is the quiet winner here. The sites bundle a gym and pool with the room, so a family weekend gets more out of it than the percentage alone suggests, though it’s worth confirming the exact rate in the app since it moves around.
Warner’s discount only applies to breaks of three nights or more, and the properties are adults only, which catches out anyone booking a family trip.
Hotels.com and Expedia are the ones to reach for abroad, where the UK chains stop being useful. Both are ordinary codes pasted at checkout, and Expedia’s rate has run as high as 12% in some periods, so it’s worth checking both before you book.
How to Get the Lowest Price
Open two tabs every time. One with the member rate, one with the chain’s own site in a private window, and compare the total including breakfast and parking rather than the nightly headline.
Join the free loyalty scheme as well. IHG One Rewards and Hilton Honors both carry their own member rates that occasionally undercut the Blue Light Card price, and neither costs anything to hold.
On the Hotels.com and Expedia websites, a cashback site often pays more than the 10% member code, and you cannot use both on one booking.
- Check which is higher before you paste anything.
A hotel is rarely the only cost on a trip either. The card does more for getting there than it does at the front desk, across airport parking and rail fares and on breakdown cover if you are driving.
Hotel partnerships also move faster than most categories on the card. Rates get boosted for a fortnight, chains drop out quietly, and the current list of live partners is worth a look before you plan around any figure on this page.
