Say your shift ends at 3am and you want a gym that’s open when you are. Blue Light Card covers four national chains, at 5% to 20% off.
Blue Light Guide is an independent guide and isn’t affiliated with Blue Light Card Ltd. For your account, verification or payments, use the official Blue Light Card website or app.
Nuffield Health takes 20% off, and The Gym Group 10%. PureGym gives up to 10% with no joining fee, and Bannatyne 7.5% with no joining fee.
We checked each offer on 24 October 2026, against Blue Light Card’s gym page and each chain’s own terms.
Four Chains From 5% to 20%
Blue Light Card’s gym membership page lists four gym chains. Each one applies its saving differently, so the joining fee and the way you claim matter as much as the rate.
| Gym | Member discount | Joining fee | How to claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nuffield Health | 20% off | Still payable | Code BLC20 or join in centre |
| The Gym Group | 10% off | Sometimes waived | Promo code when you join online |
| PureGym | 5% Core, 10% Plus | £0 | Member link, no code |
| Bannatyne | 7.5% off | £0 | Code pasted at checkout |
The rates are Blue Light Card’s headline figures, and the PureGym split comes from PureGym’s own offer page. Gym offers change, so check the app before you sign up.

PureGym at 5% or 10% Off
PureGym’s Blue Light Card page promises up to 10% off and a £0 joining fee. The 10% is for Plus memberships, and Core members get 5%.

The offer only covers Core and Plus monthly memberships. Off-peak and student memberships are excluded, and so are presale gyms that haven’t opened yet. PureGym can change or withdraw it at any time.
There’s no code to type. You click through from your Blue Light Card account, and the member price appears as you sign up.
This is also the answer to the PureGym NHS discount question. Blue Light Card’s PureGym page says NHS staff get the same member pricing and reduced joining fees through the card. Our PureGym Blue Light Card guide covers the chain on its own.
Joining Fees and Other Catches
The other three chains each have a rule worth knowing before you pay.
Nuffield Health Asks for BLC20
Nuffield Health gives 20% off with the code BLC20 at online checkout, or you can join at your local centre. Either way, you show your Blue Light Card to the team on your first visit.

The joining fee is still payable. The 20% covers full individual monthly rolling and 12-month memberships, not off-peak or pre-paid rates, and it isn’t backdated for existing members.
Partners get 20% off a joint membership if they’re 18 or over, live at the same address and pay from the same bank account. Nuffield says 109 of its 110 centres have a pool, and that the discount can change at its annual price review.
Not sure yet? Nuffield runs a free 7-day trial for emergency service workers and Blue Light Card holders, and partners can use it too. It’s one trial per person, and you show ID when you arrive.
The Gym Group Needs a Promo Code
The Gym Group takes 10% off memberships. Its Blue Light Card offer gives you a unique promo code to enter when you join online.

The Gym Group’s help page says Blue Light Card offers sometimes include no joining fee on monthly memberships, but never on off-peak ones.
Codes only work when you join. The Gym Group says an existing member has to cancel and rejoin with the code to get the discount.
Bannatyne Adds Pools and a Spa
Bannatyne takes 7.5% off and drops the joining fee. Its clubs combine gyms, pools, classes and spa facilities, according to Blue Light Card’s Bannatyne page.
The code is copied and emailed to you when you open the offer, and you paste it at checkout on Bannatyne’s website.
£132 a Year at a £55 Gym
A percentage only means something next to a real price. On 24 October 2026, Nuffield Health’s Hull club listed an anytime membership on a 12-month commitment at £55 a month, with a £19 joining fee.
At 20% off, that’s £11 a month, or £132 over a year. The £19 joining fee still applies.

PureGym’s homepage puts a typical Core membership at £24.99 a month and Plus at £31.99, with a joining fee from £10 that varies by gym. Five per cent off Core saves £14.99 a year, and 10% off Plus saves £38.39, before the waived joining fee.
So the biggest discount isn’t always the cheapest gym. Nuffield at £44 a month after the 20% still costs more than PureGym Core at full price. Pick the gym you’ll actually use, then claim its saving.
Any of these covers the £4.99 Blue Light Card fee for two years, as our guide to the cost explains.
Join Through the Card First
Start in your Blue Light Card account, not on the gym’s website. Search for the chain, open its offer page and follow the link from there.

What happens next depends on the gym. PureGym applies the member price automatically when you sign up through the link. The Gym Group and Bannatyne give you a code to enter at checkout, and Nuffield uses BLC20 or a visit to your local centre.
Join with the offer rather than switching later. The Gym Group won’t add a code to an active membership, and Nuffield doesn’t backdate its discount.
You’ll need an active membership to see the offers. Our eligibility guide lists every job that qualifies, and our guide to using the card online and in store covers codes and member links.
Gymwear at 10% to 20% Off
The card helps with kit too. Blue Light Card’s gym page lists Gymshark at 10% off, The Gym King at 20% off full price and lululemon at 10% off full price. Oner Active, an activewear brand rather than a gym, takes 10% off.
JD Sports and Nike both take 10% off full price items, and Sports Direct is in Blue Light Card’s brand directory too. Our discounts list covers the wider range.
Training at home instead? Peloton gives members a code for its Bike, Bike+ and Treadmill online, and Home Fitness Code has a code for home gym kit. Fitness trackers from Garmin, Fitbit, Samsung and Apple appear on Blue Light Card’s sports pages as well.
David Lloyd and Anytime Left Out
Plenty of big names aren’t on the card. We found no Blue Light Card offer page or directory listing for David Lloyd, Anytime Fitness, Virgin Active, énergie, Everlast, Better or Everyone Active on 24 October 2026.
Local gyms can still appear. Blue Light Card’s local offers page sorts discounts by region, so an independent gym near you may be listed there.
It’s also worth asking HR whether your employer has a staff gym or a corporate rate. For NHS workers, our guide to the Blue Light Card for NHS staff covers what the card offers them.
