The gap between them is bigger than at almost any other restaurant group taking the card, and Toby Carvery is one of the stronger dining offers on the full list of places the card works.
Showing the card alone does nothing at Toby Carvery. You have to generate a code in the app or on the website first, and present it before the bill is produced. This is where most refusals come from.

Toby Carvery Blue Light Card Discount
Twenty per cent off food, Monday to Friday, dine in. Individual restaurants confirm it on their own pages, including Toby Carvery Park Place in Mitcham.
Tables are capped at six people. All food and drink has to be ordered at the same time, so you can’t run a tab and add the discount to a second round of mains.
Defence Privilege Card holders get the same deal on the same terms, which is worth knowing if there are two cards at the table and only one gets used.
Generate the code before you walk in. Once the bill is printed, staff can’t retrospectively apply it, and arguing about it at the table gets you nowhere because the till genuinely won’t take it.
What the Toby Carvery Discount Will Not Cover
The exclusion list is long and it’s where the 20% quietly shrinks.

The bit most posts miss: plenty of guides claim the 20% works on click and collect every day. It doesn’t. The terms rule out click and collect and delivery outright, and turning up expecting it is a wasted trip.
It also can’t run alongside another promotion. If the kids eat for £1 deal or a carvery offer is on, you pick one, and on a family table the promotion usually wins.
Sunday is the real sting. A carvery on a Sunday is exactly what most people are booking, and it’s the one day the code is dead.
Harvester Blue Light Card Discount
No national Blue Light Card offer. Harvester sits under the same ownership as Toby Carvery but runs its promotions entirely separately, and a code from one brand never works at the other.
Individual sites occasionally run something local, usually tied to a nearby hospital or station rather than to the card scheme itself. These aren’t listed centrally and they come and go.
Search your nearest Harvester in the app before travelling rather than assuming the Toby Carvery deal carries across. It doesn’t, and the two brands frequently sit in the same retail park, which is how the confusion starts.
Miller & Carter Blue Light Card Discount
Nothing standing. Miller & Carter has issued Blue Light Card, NHS and student vouchers occasionally in the past, but there’s no permanent discount and you shouldn’t plan a meal around finding one.
The brand pushes its own loyalty scheme instead. You collect points towards rewards, unlock enhanced status at higher tiers, and get a birthday voucher if your date of birth is saved in your account.
That’s a deliberate choice rather than an oversight. A steakhouse at Miller & Carter’s price point protects margin by rewarding repeat visits rather than handing 20% to anyone with a card, and the brand’s own FAQs point regulars towards the scheme.

The group runs more than 1,700 sites, so the three brands above are a small slice of where you might end up eating.
All Bar One, Browns, Sizzling Pubs, Vintage Inns, Ember Inns, Nicholson’s, O’Neills, Stonehouse and Crown Carveries all sit under the same roof, and each sets its own policy. Some appear in the app, some never do.
There’s a workaround for the brands that refuse the discount. A Mitchells & Butlers gift card spends across the whole estate, including Miller & Carter and Harvester, so a discounted one bought through the Shopping Cards section gets you a saving where no code exists.
Check whether one is currently listed before relying on it, because the Shopping Card line-up rotates as often as the discounts do. Gift cards across the group typically run 24 months from the last time value was loaded or spent.
Group-wide schemes are strict about stacking. The company’s own discount terms rule out combining with other offers, vouchers or app rewards, and the same logic applies at the till with a Blue Light Card code.
Getting the Most Out of It
Go on a weekday and go for food. That’s the whole strategy, and it’s worth planning around, because a family carvery midweek at 20% off is one of the better returns on the card anywhere in dining.
Generate the code in the car park rather than at the table. It takes thirty seconds, the signal inside is usually worse, and it removes the awkward conversation entirely.
Codes are single use and refresh per visit, so treat them like the rest of the codes that come out of the app and pull a fresh one each time rather than screenshotting one and reusing it.
On a Sunday, a bank holiday, or anywhere near a set menu, assume the answer is no and budget accordingly. Being pleasantly surprised beats an argument in front of your in-laws.
Restaurant offers move faster than any other category on the card, and individual sites drop in and out of the scheme without announcing it. Checking the app the morning of the booking is worth the minute it takes.
