The Merlin Gift Card
The Merlin Gift Card is 4% off, and it is the smaller of the two savings.
Blue Light Card lists it under Shopping Cards, and the 4% is applied the moment you buy, so there is no code and no cashback to chase.
You buy it below face value inside the Blue Light Card app, then spend it online at merlin’s website against tickets, hotel stays, Fastrack passes or VIP experiences.

To claim it, log into your account, search Merlin Gift Card, and buy the value you need. The card details land ready to paste at the attraction’s checkout, where it behaves like a normal debit card.
The Merlin Gift Card only works online, never in person at the gate, and a booking has to be paid in full by the card with no part payment. It also expires 12 months after purchase, so don’t buy one months before you’ve settled on a date.
Because the card can’t cover part of a booking, buy it to match the ticket price you’re actually paying rather than rounding up and stranding a few pounds you then have to spend elsewhere.
Merlin Member Days
Member Days are where the card genuinely pays for itself.
On set dates a Merlin park shuts to the general public and opens only to Blue Light Card members, with tickets sold well below the standard gate rate.
They have run at the big theme parks, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Chessington and Legoland among them. The catch is that dates aren’t advertised publicly and sell through your Blue Light Card account, so you find out by checking the app rather than by searching online.
Popular dates go quickly, so it pays to look the moment a park you fancy appears. If you’re travelling for a member date, price up the stay as well, since Blue Light Card holiday and hotel discounts can bring the accommodation down alongside the cheaper tickets.
Treat a published Member Day as the anchor for the whole trip. Booking a hotel around a member date, then paying member prices for the tickets on the day, is the single biggest saving here and it beats the 4% gift card by a wide margin.
Theme Parks Outside the Merlin Group
Not every big park belongs to Merlin, and the ones that don’t handle the Blue Light Card differently, if they take part at all.
Drayton Manor
Drayton Manor isn’t a Merlin park, so the gift card won’t work there, but it runs its own Blue Light Card discount of up to 7% off day tickets. The mechanic is different too.
You pull a unique code from your Blue Light Card account, enter it when booking on the Drayton Manor website, then show your card at the gate for verification.
The saving covers day tickets rather than every extra, and you need to book online in advance to use it.
Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World
Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World give Blue Light Card holders no discount at all. The park says so plainly on its own site and warns that third-party codes floating around won’t work at its checkout.
If you see a voucher site advertising a Blue Light Card or NHS deal for Paultons, ignore it, because entry bought through anything other than the official Paultons channels can be refused.
Your cheapest route there is booking directly and adding a second day, or a Paultons Breaks short-break package, none of which needs a Blue Light Card.
The safe rule for any non-Merlin park is to check that park’s own website. A real Blue Light Card deal lives on the brand’s site or in your account, never on a random voucher-code page.
The Route I’d Use Every Time
If I could only use one, it would be a Member Day. Getting a big park at member-only prices dwarfs the 4% on a gift card, and it’s the one saving here that feels like a real cut rather than a rounding error.
The gap is easy to picture. Spend £180 on a family Merlin booking and the gift card’s 4% saves about £7, while a Member Day, where the same park sells tickets at a fraction of the gate price, saves several times that on the same group.
The gift card is a top-up, not the main event. Use it when there’s no Member Day for the park you want, or to shave a little off a hotel break you were booking anyway.
A Member Day at Alton Towers or Thorpe Park is worth a long drive and an overnight stay. For the midway attractions like Madame Tussauds or SEA LIFE, the gift card’s 4% is all you’ll get, and it’s barely worth the extra step for a single afternoon out.
