Specsavers Blue Light Card Discount and What Works Instead

Say you’ve booked a Specsavers eye test and plan to show your Blue Light Card at the counter. It won’t take anything off, because Specsavers has no Blue Light Card discount, code or Shopping Card.

Blue Light Guide is an independent guide and isn’t affiliated with Blue Light Card Ltd. For your account, verification or payments, use the official Blue Light Card website or app.

Specsavers doesn’t run its own NHS staff, key worker or Blue Light discount either. Its offers page lists 2 for 1 from the £70 range, plus deals for students and over 60s.

The card does work at Vision Express, with 20% off glasses online. And the eye test itself can cost nothing through the NHS or your employer.

Does Specsavers Take Blue Light Card?

No, not in any form. On 25 October 2026, Specsavers had no brand page and no gift card page on Blue Light Card. It was also missing from the card’s A to Z directory of 578 brands, where Space NK is followed by Sports Direct.

Blue Light Card

None of the 202 articles in Blue Light Card’s help centre mention Specsavers. So a voucher site code that claims to be a Specsavers Blue Light Card discount isn’t a member offer.

Health Service Discounts, the free scheme for NHS and healthcare staff, has no Specsavers offer either. Its brand A to Z jumps from Spaseekers to Speedo.

Specsavers’ own offers page has nothing for NHS staff or key workers. Its deals are open to anyone who fits the terms. They include 2 for 1, 25% off for students and 20% off for over 60s, all on glasses from the £70 range up.

Checklist showing a Blue Light Card code works online at Vision Express, Lenstore, Glasses Direct and Feel Good Contacts, but saves nothing at Specsavers, Boots Opticians, Vision Express stores or with a Boots Shopping Card on eye care

Vision Express is the only high street optician with its own entry in Blue Light Card’s directory. Our optician discounts guide also covers the online lens shops and laser eye surgery.

From a Free Test to 30% Off

These routes do cut the cost of an eye test or glasses. Each one was checked on the provider’s own pages.

Vision Express is the chain to use with your card. Its Blue Light Card terms give 20% off glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses, with the frame, lenses and add-ons all covered. Blue Light Card’s page says the code works in store too, but Vision Express says online only, so order at visionexpress.com. The £25 glasses, sale lines and some luxury brands are excluded.

Key workers without the card can get the same 20% online through Vision Express’s own key worker offer, which checks your job with GoCertify.

NHS and healthcare staff can do better in a Vision Express shop. Health Service Discounts has a Vision Select voucher worth 30% off one pair of adult glasses, plus a free eye test, when you spend £50 or more. It also works alongside Vision Express’s 50% off a second pair.

Contact lens wearers can take up to 20% off at Lenstore, with a Blue Light Card code for online orders.

The biggest saving is a free NHS sight test. The NHS pays for under 16s, 16 to 18 year olds in full-time education, people aged 60 or over, people with diabetes or glaucoma and some benefit claimants. Every Specsavers store does NHS eye tests, but working for the NHS doesn’t count on its own, as Specsavers points out.

Some of the same groups get an NHS optical voucher towards glasses, and Specsavers says under 16s can get free glasses with one. It also notes that in Scotland, the NHS covers the eye test for everyone.

The Boots row needs care. Blue Light Card’s Boots gift card page says the card works only online at boots.com. It also rules out pharmacy, opticians and hearing care.

So it can’t pay for glasses or an eye test at Boots Opticians, which has no member offer of its own. Our Boots guide covers what the 3% card can buy.

Blue Light Card copies the code for you, emails it and keeps it in your Wallet. Our guide on how to use Blue Light Card walks through each type of offer.

You don’t have to buy glasses where you had the test. Your optometrist must give you your prescription afterwards, and the NHS says you should never feel obliged to buy from the same place.

That means a free NHS test at Specsavers can still end in a Vision Express order. Don’t worry if the prescription leaves out your pupil distance. The law doesn’t require it, and any glasses seller should have a way to measure it.

£70 Off Glasses With a Work Voucher

Screen users have a legal route to a free test. The Health and Safety Executive says employers must arrange and pay for one if a display screen user asks. They only have to pay for glasses you need for the screen distance.

Specsavers sells employers vouchers for this. Its employee page says the voucher covers a free eye test. If you need glasses, you can pick a free pair from the £50 range, or put the £50 towards a dearer pair. The exact benefit depends on the voucher type your employer buys.

Premium Club, built into every voucher, takes a further £20 off glasses from the £100 range or above. On a £100 designer pair, the two together leave you paying £30 with single vision lenses. You can also ask your employer for two Premium Club vouchers a year for family members.

Specsavers prices by route, with a £50 range pair free and a £100 range pair at £30 on a work voucher, a £70 range pair at £56 with 20% off for over 60s, two £70 range pairs for £70 on 2 for 1 and an eye test at £20 to £25 without NHS cover

Without a voucher, Specsavers’ pricing guide still sets clear numbers. Every pair includes single vision lenses, from £15. Two pairs from the £70 range cost £70 on 2 for 1, plus about £20 to £25 for the test if the NHS doesn’t cover you.

Over 60s get the NHS test free and 20% off one pair from the £70 range, so that pair costs £56. At Vision Express, a £100 pair costs £80 online with the card, or £70 in store with the Health Service Discounts voucher.
